But Paul Cox’s Lions had only themselves to blame after some blatant second-half time-wasting that infuriated the home crowd – goalscorer Raul Correia the main culprit during a lengthy break for treatment that only the appearance of a stretcher curtailed.

“It was a frustrating afternoon and disappointing to take only a point at home,” said Wrexham manager Dean Keates. “We knew they would be strong and organised but we didn’t move the ball with the intensity we needed to break them down.

“But we kept at it and in the end we got the goal we deserved. It was late but the 10 minutes or so of added time was probably less than there should have been.”
