Sixtowns Road Ranked Third 'Most Defected' Road In North
County Derry Post
|23 January 2018
THE Sixtowns Road, out-side Draperstown, has been ranked third in a list of Northern Ireland’s worst road for defects, it has been revealed.
The Department for Infrastructure (DfI) has confirmed that in 2017, 80 defects were recorded on the Sixtowns Road between the Blackrock Road and Bealnamala Bridge.
The latest figures released by the Department, following a Freedom of Information request by BBC NI, have also shown that over the period from January 1, 2016 and November 30, 2017, compensation was paid out to a total of 1,935 damaged vehicles.
Compensation to motorists whose vehicles were damaged as a result of road defects including potholes, totalled £495,358.04.
Dfihave set themselves a budget this year of £63 million, however a spokesperson has confirmed that that has proved ‘challenging’.
Due to budgetary restraints, last month, Dfihad proposed only repairing potholes measuring 100millimeters in depth.
Over the past number of days, the County Derry Post has been contacted by several concerned motorists over the growing number of potholes on roads right across County Derry.
