My Mysterious Mole

That’s weird, I thought. At the top of my left arm, there was a mole just below my shoulder.

I’d seen it before, but I was sure it’d been smaller…

For a split second, I thought it looked a bit like chocolate. But nothing happened when I tried to wipe it away.

Not only was it bigger than usual, it looked darker.

Just to be safe, I made an appointment with my GP in April 2010. She didn’t think it was anything to worry about.

So I forgot about it. Little did I know… In the November, I got a chest infection, so I booked myself another appointment at the same surgery.

This time, I saw a different doctor, who noticed the mole.

‘That looks unusual,’ she said, intrigued.

‘I saw a doctor about it,’ I explained. ‘She said it wasn’t anything sinister.’

She examined me and sent me away with medication for the chest infection.

‘I think you should get that mole looked at again,’ she insisted before I left, and referred me to hospital.
