Get On The Right Track
The Malaysian Women\'s Weekly|May 2017

Is your relationship heading for a breakdown? Look out for some of the warning signs below!

Get On The Right Track

Few relationships suddenly end in separation. Most go through phases of deterioration, long before either party has packed their bags. You may not have parted. You may not even be arguing, but perhaps you have noticed there is an ever-widening emotional distance between you and your partner.

Don’t be too alarmed as there are usually warning signs your relationship is in trouble – take note. When you recognise the signs, you can take steps to repair the damage and reconnect.

You Pursue, He Distances

A sign your relationship is in trouble is when you are the one pursuing emotional closeness and sexual intimacy and your partner pulls away. The more you pursue, the more he distances himself. When the relationship falters, old insecurities resurface, which makes you pursue even more, driving your partner further away.

THE SOLUTION

Find Yourself

Pursuers lose themselves in their partner’s lives. You can’t expect your partner to make your life complete. It is your responsibility to sort out your insecurities, especially the ones that make you needy and obsessive. Start by finding contentment with your own company. Focus on your interests and do things that make you happy. Create diversity and interest in your life by developing and maintaining interesting relationships with all kinds of people. Relationships thrive when both parties have full lives.

Lack Of Respect

Another sign your relationship is heading for a breakdown is when respect for each other disappears. Early warning signs are subtle put-downs, blame, criticism, and lack of support. If it’s left unchecked, a lack of respect in a relationship can become toxic, and a partner’s barbed words and behaviour are not easily forgotten.

THE SOLUTION

Value Each Other
