“THE STORY of the Romanov family is so crazy; they died because of contrasting beliefs and political stances at the time [the family were brutally massacred in 1918 by an opposing faction]. It’s hard to get your head around that when you’re just reading it online or in books. The characters in [The Romanoffs] believe they’re connected to the family, and I found their desire to feel like they’re a part of it, or to feel like they’re a royal, really interesting. I had to figure out why it was important to my character. It’s not only the Romanov family – everyone wants to know where they’re from and feel like they’re part of a community. It’s universal.”
