Ann In Her Van
Cornwall Life
|April 2017
Ann knight has set off from her camelford home for the adventure of a lifetime, armed only with her vw campervan and a beagle called grumpus.
I am a 56-year-old divorcee going through a mid-life crisis. No wait, please don’t turn the page! This story gets better…I promise. A few months ago I was feeling decidedly sorry for myself. I’d had a series of setbacks in my personal life and the death of my father shook me to the core. He was elderly and it was his time to die. But nonetheless it was harrowing seeing him fade away on an orthopaedic ward at Treliske for several weeks because no community hospital beds were available to give him the rehab he desperately needed after a hip operation.
He spent the last two weeks of his life in a wonderful, high dependency care home in Callington. I sat by his side for 27 hours, holding his hand waiting for him to take his last breath.
