CELEBRATING THE 3RS...REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE
In the 15 or so years Andy and I have been boating, we have spent many of them without a television. In our early boating days, it always seemed too complicated to set one up. Especially as we were primarily holiday boaters and family holidays were always notable for the absence of televisions. Indeed, as a child growing up, I believed Thou Shall Not Watch Telly On Holiday was the 11th commandment. In more recent years, we have embraced streaming technology but even so, we still watch far less television than when on land.

Given that this is so, we have found other forms of entertainment to enjoy. While living in lockdown, we have revisited our favourite onboard entertainment, Six Handed Rummy, many times. Card games are perfect when every inch of storage space is accounted for, but we have also travelled with board games ranging from Scrabble to Carcassonne, though stowing such can be something of a problem.
Now that our visiting grandchildren are getting into games, I needed to create something that would keep things in together. I had acquired my family’s old Monopoly board dating from the 1950s when my mother moved house last year and was certain something could be made from it. It has been well played with so is more than a little battered and all the pieces have vanished, but the board was still strong.
