Equipment To Use To Shoot Festivals

Festival season is here! While everyone in India is counting down days when they can buy new clothes, enjoy with friends or even just get time off from work, but photographers have already started planning their trips around the country to cover these festivals.

In this article we will talk about different equipment a photographer who has just started out, needs to carry.

DSLR

The most important equipment in a photographer’s arsenal, the DSLR needs to be chosen wisely. Festivals, unlike other assignments can be tricky as every festival and every ritual in that festival differs from place to place and town to town. So a photographer might have to shoot in difficult light conditions, in fast paced environment etc. You will, almost always, be better off carrying two DSLRs with two different lenses. The best combination is to carry a full frame DSLR coupled with a cropped sensor DSLR. We will discuss the advantages to this combination further down in this article.

TRIPOD

A tripod might seem like an extra effort to many photographers to carry a heavy tripod, but festivals are not just about shooting photographs of rallies and festivities. It also involves a lot of activities for which you will require a tripod to shoot. Take for example fireworks during festivals require a rock steady hand or a tripod. You may not require to lug around a heavy tripod all the time but having a trusty tripod can come in use at times. If not, carry a gorrilapod in your bag which can be attached to surrounding objects and is quite a handy tool. A gorillapod that can hold the weight of a DSLR might be expensive but it is worth the investment.
