From fashion to architecture, fabrics to ceramics, the folded ‘texture trend’ of pleats is making serious waves in the creative world. According to Ar. Rajiv Khushalani of Khushalani Associates, pleats pattern is growing as a global trend in the décor industry. “Fold, gather and tuck this trend! What was earlier restricted to fabrics, is being used intelligently to add another dimension to the otherwise flat 2D surfaces. Pleats make for interesting sciography (study of projection of shadows) when used smartly against the light — not just in exterior surfaces but also to add drama when set against lighting in interior spaces as well,” he explains.
