We get it — incorporating different patterns into interior décor can be incredibly intimidating. But we promise, with a little insider information, you can mix and layer patterns like a pro. The trick to learning how to get it right is understanding the basic rules. Interior designer Farah Ahmed Mathias of FADD Studio shares, “There’s a lot of bold and dramatic patterns being used. You’re likely to find a juxtaposition of monochromatic ones, especially those hailing from different cultures. For example, black and white stripes are being paired with tropical botanicals that are also in black and white; or houndstooth prints with exotic scenes from Vietnam and Japan. The contrast of scale within patterns is trending quite a bit.”
