DESIGN WITH MEANING

SITTING AREA

This is the type of space that just puts you at ease – its serene palette and hints of bright pattern instill a sense of joy. Button lounge chair, Julian Chichester; upholstered in Mill Pond in Nymph, Fanny Shorter. TP Modern sofa; TP ottoman, both Lorfords

KITCHEN

The simplicity of this scheme is enhanced by the tablecloth but also by the subtle decorative panelling. Cabinetry, Lethbridge Lines; painted in Slate IV, Paint & Paper Library. Silvery Clay Click Lock flooring, Plusfloor

Bunny Turner and Emma Pocock of Turner Pocock had been working on a client’s large estate in Berkshire for a number of years when they were asked to turn their attention to one of the ancillary cottages in the grounds. ‘Our client and her husbands are extraordinary philanthropists and great supporters of Cancer Research UK, and her suggestion was for the house to provide a respite space for recovering cancer patients,’ recounts Bunny. ‘It was such an inspiring idea that we leapt at the chance.’

The project was a gift for a pair who share a passion for punchy colour and patterns. ‘We persuaded the owner that the cottage should be decorated in a joyful way and she let us run with that,’ recalls Emma, adding, ‘We were asked to make the spaces as comfortable as possible, which suited us perfectly; much of the way in which we design is about comfort.’
