1 STEP OUTSIDE RED AND GREEN

Create a sophisticated look by using a less traditional palette when you’re decorating your home. “Blush and rose gold is an enduring colour combination that’s not so obviously Christmassy and it looks great with green and white,” says stylist Amy Collins-Walker. “Likewise, terracotta is trending pretty hard at the moment, as is lilac, and I think both of those would work well.” Amy also recommends keeping the colour scheme consistent throughout your home. “For me, the colour palette drives the ideas,” she explains.

2 USE HANDMADE ITEMS

Even if you’re not good at craft, there are plenty of makers online creating sweet pieces, such as Christmas stockings. “Our kids have the same ones each year as it’s the nostalgia that I love the most, but if I was buying new ones, I love hand-sewn stockings with pretty fabrics added,” shares Nicki Dobrzynski, founder of Cottonwood & Co. “There are some beautiful handmade ones on Etsy for those that, like me, can’t sew to save their life.”

3 ADD NATURAL BEAUTY

Collect fresh leaves from your garden to create a display pulled together with decorations and a ribbon. “I’d opt for foliage that can last out of water longer or dries well, like rosemary, pine and eucalyptus,” says Nicki.
