Patchwork Pony

This little pony is the final installment in our new patchwork animal series  which began in April. He is sure to elicit smiles and steal hearts!

MATERIALS

Red Heart Super Saver medium (worsted) weight acrylic yarn (7 oz/364 yds/ 198g per skein):

1 oz #311 white 3/4 oz each #373 petal pink, #656 real teal and #3251 flame 1/2 oz each #322 pale yellow, #505 Aruba sea, #512 turqua, #528 medium purple, #668 honeydew and #718 shocking pink 2 yds #312 black

Size 7/4.5mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge

Stitch markers

Tapestry needle

Polyester fiber fill

3/8-inch-wide x 26-inch-long flat shoelace (optional)

Straight pins (optional)

Craft glue (optional)

GAUGE 

4 sc = 1 inch; rnds 1–4 = 2 inches

PATTERN NOTES

Weave in loose ends as work progresses.

Do not join rounds or turn unless otherwise stated. Place stitch marker at beginning of rounds and move up as each round is completed.

Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated.

Omit optional materials, which are for Bridle, if toy is intended for child under 3 years old.

SPECIAL STITCH

Single crochet join (sc join): Place a slip knot on hook, insert hook in indicated st, yo and draw up a lp, yo and pull through both lps on hook.

PONY

HEAD

Rnd 1: With white, ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, place marker (see Pattern Notes). (6 sc)

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around. (12 sc)

Rnd 3: [Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st] around. (18 sc)

Rnd 4: [Sc in each of next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st] around. (24 sc)

Rnd 5: Sc in each st around.

Rnds 6 & 7: Rep rnd 5. At end of last rnd, fasten off.
