In the Family

For nearly two years, Tom and Lynette Moss searched for the ideal home. The couple had recently moved to Charlotte from Columbia, South Carolina, to be closer to their daughter, who was pregnant at the time. Unable to find what they wanted, they opted to rent a condo in Phillips Place while looking for a home that would fit their desire to downsize, have a yard with little maintenance, and be within walking distance of shops and restaurants.

So when the Kenwood development broke ground on Selwyn Avenue, just a half mile from Nolen Kitchen, Reid’s Fine Foods, and more, the Mosses jumped at the opportunity to snatch up one of the townhome units. “It fit every criteria we had,” says Lynette. “A gorgeous courtyard, proximity to the shops and restaurants on Selwyn Avenue, and enough space to accommodate our family for holidays and grandkids’ sleepovers. It was the icing on the cake.”

City Chicks

When I brought three chicks home last spring, I expected fresh eggs to be the biggest reward. But Mildred, Barbara, and Mamie Lee—a Barred Rock, Columbian Wyandotte, and Easter Egger— have also become beloved family pets, following me around, perching on the porch swing, peering in the window and eating mealworms out of my hands.
