The Bigger Picture

Using a design approach that brings out the personality of the space through the smart integration of the material palette and functionality, architect Vivek Kadecha creates a professional photography workspace that also doubles as a hub for exhibitions, socializing and relaxation.

“We have always believed that spaces are the reflection of the people for whom they have been designed,” says Vivek Kadecha principal at his namesake firm Vivek Kadecha Architects in Ahmedabad. Interestingly, it is in literal sense for the case of the project in question — Chhabi — a wedding photography and videography studio for father-son duo Dharmendra and Bhumil Soochak. The name itself is a Hindi translation of reflection. The studio was envisaged mostly for client meetings, post production work, editing, and conducting product and modelling shoots. The clients also wanted to use it as a gallery where artists could exhibit their work. “I strongly believe that the designing of a space starts with the thought of what kind of feelings and emotions one really wants the users to experience. For Chhabi, we wanted visitors to experience a feeling of attachment and belonging. We have created a comfort zone where the clients can come in even on weekends for either work or to socialize with their friends,” explains Vivek.
