AV Fourth Dimension astutely turns a bare 4BHK apartment in Mumbai into a modern home with a design that not only addresses the varying needs of each family member but is visually engaging as well.

Modernist Le Corbusier wrote, “The home should be the treasure chest of living.” It is an amalgamation of many different components. What exactly these are will vary depending on who you ask because a home is a deeply personal experience. It is not just a reflection of our tastes but also our values and ideologies.

For Sameer and Seema Shah, a home is defined by the needs, comfort and safety of the family. Living with their ageing parents and two sons, the couple was looking for a space that not only catered to the family’s wellbeing but was also modern and had a serene vibe. After getting some positive reviews from acquaintances about Amee Vora, the principal at AV Fourth Dimension, the couple decided to entrust the architect with the design of their newly-bought 2,000-square-foot 4BHK apartment at Mulund in Mumbai. Meeting the special needs of the parents was a priority, and the client's requirements included anti-skid flooring, 24x7 surveillance, childproof living and dining room balconies and an inverter in case of power failures.

The site assigned to Amee was a basic shell with the flooring, bathrooms, part of the kitchen, windows, grills and painting work in place. After thoroughly studying the lifestyle and habits of the family, the architect chalked out a design that not only met their needs but also took cues from the location, which is close to an ecological reserve.
