Can You Beat Cellulite?

It’s a problem most women face: cellulite! Sadly, it is much more common in women than in men because of differences in the way fat, muscle, and connective tissue are distributed in men’s and women’s skin. But not all cellulite is created equal. Who knew? Turns out there are 4 basic types – and most of us have one of them.

Can You Beat Cellulite?

TYPE 1: Loose Skin Cellulite

With age, as collagen and elastin fibers in the tissues weaken, there is increased sliding of the skin over the muscles and tissues, causing dimpling in the skin surface. While looking in a mirror, take two fingers and pinch the skin underneath your eye or on the top of your hand. When you release it, if the skin is sluggish to snap back, that’s a sign you probably have loose skin cellulite.

How to tackle it: Look for lotions that have 3 main ingredients that help firm the skin: red algae, peptides and vitamin A. They can help bring back some of the elasticity that you may have lost over time. Apply the lotion twice per day, and be sure to apply a dime-sized amount per area, and massage in thoroughly.

TYPE 2: Poor Circulation Cellulite

This is when the fat beneath the skin is pushed against the surrounding connective tissue, and the excess fat amassed is the superficial layer of tissue bulges between bands of connective tissue. Two clues that signal you might have it are cold hands and feet, and sparse hair on your legs.

How to tackle it: Experts suggests using a dry brush to scrub the area in a circular motion for about 10 minutes on each leg. Doing this every day will wear down the fibres that are buckling and will smooth them out.

TYPE 3: Lack of Exercise Cellulite

Skipping your workouts can cause an increase in fatty tissue, making cellulite more noticeable. This is very common in people who have had recent weight gain or weight loss.

CERTAIN CHANGES IN DRIVING PATTERNS MAY POINT TO COGNITIVE DECLINE, DEMENTIA

Individuals with cognitive impairment are at a two-to five-fold increased risk of being involved in motor accidents, highlighting the deterioration of driving skills with a decline in cognitive function. A recent study published in Neurology suggests that changes in daily driving patterns recorded using a vehicle datalogger could reliably distinguish individuals with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) from those with normal cognition. The study’s findings suggest that data collected by vehicle data loggers could potentially be used in the early identification of individuals at risk of a motor crash or those with cognitive impairment, prior to in-person cognitive assessments or brain imaging scans. Driving data patterns could also serve as a tool to assess the effectiveness of interventions for treating cognitive impairment.

TARGETING IDO1 FOR CANCER: NOVEL DEGRADERS SHOW PROMISE IN PRECLINICAL STUDIES

Cancer cells employ a variety of strategies to evade the immune system, and modern immunotherapies aim precisely at these escape mechanisms. However, such therapies are not always successful. A research team from the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Physiology in Dortmund and the AITHYRA Institute in Vienna has now developed a new class of compounds that specifically target and destroy the enzyme IDO1 – a key molecular switch that tumours use to suppress immune responses. They were also able to show that iDegs (IDO1 degraders) inhibit tumour growth in mice with SKOV-3 tumours, thereby prolonging survival time. This approach could markedly enhance the efficacy of existing immunotherapies and open new avenues in the fight against cancer. The new research was published in the journal Nature.
