Shelley will readily tell you she and her husband are horticulturally challenged. “We’re black thumbs,” she says. “We kill plants with monotonous regularity!” Add to this the fact that the expat family spend much of the year overseas, and the term ‘low-maintenance’ takes on new meaning. Their garden was conceptualised and created in tandem with the family’s strikingly modern new home in Melbourne’s east. “The landscaping was just as important as the architectural design of the dwelling,” says Shelley.
