With arthritis, your joints may be foremost on your mind, but consider your blood sugar, too. Osteoarthritis (OA) and inflammatory types of arthritis are linked to an elevated risk of type 2 diabetes. In fact, 16 percent of people with arthritis have type 2 diabetes. And nearly half of those living with type 2 diabetes also have arthritis.

But there’s a lot you can do to ward off diabetes – or even reverse course if you already have it – that can also help you live better with arthritis. Here’s what you need to know.
