OUR carp matches are now out of the way, so I’m now thinking about my own fishing.

I really enjoy fishing in winter, as the drop in temperature puts people off going, the banks become a little less busy, giving me a greater choice of swims. The fish are usually in fit condition, too, having put on weight to see them through the cold weather.

It’s less likely that other anglers will be fishing the same spots as I am in winter, so I like to pre-bait them, to attract and feed fish. The effort involved can be a big pain at the best of times, but more so when you’re doing it in the dark after a long day at work, often faced with freezing temperatures and driving rain, sometimes in the snow.

If you keep feeding bait into the right spots, the bites will come throughout winter, I can assure you of that.
