Aunque la acción de hacer "solo lo que me toca" ha tenido sus fans desde siempre en el mundo laboral, el término "renuncia silenciosa" (o quiet quitting en inglés), se dio cuando Zaiad Kahn, un usuario de TikTok con más de 10 mil seguidores, subió un video su definición: "Renunciar en silencio, no es que renuncies a tu trabajo por completo, sino solo a la idea de ir más allá... Todavía estás cumpliendo con tus deberes, pero ya no estás comprometiéndote con la cultura de que el trabajo tiene que ser tu vida". Y entonces, muchos comenzaron a cuestionarse sobre ello.
Para la profesora de carrera de la Facultad de Psicología de la UNAM, la doctora Juana Patlán, este fenómeno es, más bien, una renuncia psicológica mediante la cual la persona se esfuerza en afrontar el estrés, el cansancio y la sobrecarga de trabajo, pero sin renunciar a su empleo. "Se puede dar por distintos factores, por ejemplo, un trabajo que tiene una distancia muy larga entre la casa y la oficina, por lo que se llega cansado al trabajo; o por el bajo salario o bajas condiciones laborales", es decir, una insatisfacción que deriva en una especie de desconexión emocional.
Y es que, la Generación Z, que presenta tal situación con mayor preponderancia, está buscando satisfactores que el trabajo no les da; mientras que la Generación Millennial o X sí los obtenían ahí. "Nos dedicábamos a estar en el trabajo y quedarnos, estos chicos ya no sienten tal compromiso, porque, además, salieron al mundo a trabajar en medio de la pandemia, cuando las condiciones laborales cambiaron por completo; en muchos casos, incluso tienen cero prestaciones", indica Mariana Martínez Guillen, directora de Tu Mente Sana, especialista de la salud mental.
