Holby City: The Musical?

West End star Lee Mead proved a huge hit as Casualty’s clumsy but kind nurse Ben ‘Lofty’ Chiltern. Fans, many of whom have followed the star since he won BBC1 talent search Any Dream Will Do, were disappointed when he chose to leave the series in March 2016 after two years, but the good news is he’s back, joining the cast of Holby City this week.

Lofty left the ED under a dark cloud after a nurse died on his watch (following an unfortunate incident with a defibrillator). After leaving to go travelling and see the world, the nurse is now back on Keller ward, but he’s still haunted by the terrible incident that forced him out the door.

Reprising the role was an easy decision for Lee, who only hung up his stethoscope the first time round when family reasons demanded it. Here he talks about scrubbing back in…
