Aidan Turner on why Cornish hero Ross Poldark is heading to Westminster…
NEW PERIOD DRAMA
Poldark
Sunday, BBC1 Hd, 9pm
Dust off your tricorn hat and brace yourself for lots of romantically windswept cliff scenes, as BBC1’s hugely popular Cornish costume saga Poldark returns to our screens for a fourth series this week.
It’s now 1796, and Prime Minister William Pitt has called an election. As uncertainty grips the country, the swashbuckling Ross Poldark (Aidan Turner) is also watching his beloved Cornwall suffer under Truro’s power-hungry MP, his long-time nemesis George Warleggan.
Risking everything he holds dear, rebellious Ross soon realises that the only way he can make a real difference to the lives of the people around him – along with challenging widespread corruption – is to get elected to Westminster himself.
We caught up with Turner, who turns 35 this week, to talk plots, politics and the potential end of Poldark…
