Simon Barnard explores the harmonious sounds of The Beach Boys and the genius of Brian Wilson’s exploration into psychedelia.
Formed in 1961 in California, The Beach Boys was made up of three brothers, Brian, Dennis and Carl Wilson, with their cousin Mike Love, and friend Al Jardine. The band was highly distinguishable from their contemporaries by the tight vocal harmonies and reference to the early surf culture of the 60s. The creative brains behind the success of the band was Brian Wilson, who took on many roles within the group including songwriter, arranger, producer and engineer.
