I Look Better Lighter
Drum English
|May 04, 2017
Whiter teeth, hair transplants, boob jobs and lighter skin, it’s all in a day’s work for Khanyi Mbau. But she’s unapologetic and happy with her image.

CONTROVERSIAL could have been a word invented with Khanyi Mbau in mind. Ever since she leapt into the limelight 13 years ago she’s been making headlines for all the wrong reasons: partying too hard, marrying rich men, flaunting her jewellery, driving designer cars, living it up in designer pads – you name it, she’s been there, done that and got the sparkly Tshirt.
She’s had some hard knocks along the way too but she’s always built herself up again. All of which boils down to this: Love her, hate her or love to hate her, you have to hand it to Khanyi, she has staying power – and a sense of humour.
The 31-year-old radio and TV personality found herself trending on Twitter again recently. In case you missed it, she posted a picture of herself in a short, silver fringed frock and outthere boots, posing in front of a pair of pink chairs.
Her hair was sleek, her makeup dramatic – and her skin paler than it has ever been. Cue a Twitter roasting. “She’s competing with those pink chairs,” one user remarked.
“Khanyi Mbau is basically see through,” another said.
Then a user came up with: “Me: Milkshake tu. Waitress: Flavour? Me: Khanyi Mbau. Waitress: Alright, strawberry milkshake coming up.”
“Khanyi Mbau is brighter than my future,” yet another quipped.
Her hands were also scolded for being “disobedient” and looking several shades darker than the rest of her.
