Raina and Akshina Mehta, twin sisters and co-founders of their passion project - Moonlight Bakers navigate the Mumbai baking community with unflinching dedication and talent. And when it comes to their sugar-free, gluten-free, vegan, keto, paleo, and protein-packed treats, just one bite of any of these quite instantly leaves you wanting more.
Born and raised in Mumbai, the girls grew up in a close-knit family where a majority of their gatherings revolved around food. While their grandfather was in the oil business, their father is a cardiologist, and mother - an investor. “As children, we accompanied our grandmother while she watched cooking shows and discussed food and different cuisines.” Add to that growing up surrounded by entrepreneurs, and it was only natural that they followed suit.
The 26-year-olds launched their business in 2016. Prior to this, Akshina got her Bachelors degree in Biotechnology from Jai Hind College, before moving base to London to pursue her Masters in Immunology from the University of Oxford. Thereafter she worked at the University College London, UK and at the Tata Institute for Fundamental Research. Raina, on the other hand, got her Bachelors degree in Finance and worked as an equity research associate for 2 years at a stockbroking firm in Mumbai alongside studying for her CFA exams. She also did a summer at LSE wherein she specialized in Macroeconomics.
