Siduction 2021.3.0

Linux distribution

The developers behind the Siduction project are experienced campaigners, having been part of several other leading distros. They decided to band together and create Siduction with the sole intention of keeping the users involved in the distro’s development process.

One of the good things about the distro is its pragmatic approach. While the developers do promote the use of free software and free drivers, they’re averse to including non-free drivers as well.

Siduction is available in multiple editions. The developers note that they’ve had to curtain the list of supported desktop environments down to KDE Plasma, LXQt, and Xfce. There’s also a Xorg version that includes the Fluxbox window manager, as well as a noX edition, which doesn’t include any desktop.

The distro is based on a snapshot of Debian Unstable, which also lends its name to the distro, Sid. The developers add some other packages to this snapshot such as a customised Linux kernel 5.15.11 release, along with a handful of useful scripts.

Seductively stable

The release notes for Siduction 2021.3.0 mention the fact that starting with this release, the distro defaults to using Intel’s iNet Wireless daemon (iwd) rather than the traditional wpa_supplicant. First included in the Xorg and noX editions,
