If one person springs to mind when it comes to humour, generosity and encouraging people to be kind to one another, it’s Ellen DeGeneres. Long applauded for her positive influence in the LGBTQ community and charitable acts of service, the comedian has been known for bringing light to people in times of darkness for almost two decades.

However, in recent months, the star has copped backlash, with many former staffers, guests and even fellow celebrities claiming that DeGeneres is anything but an angel – some even branding the 62-year-old as “cold” and “mean”.

“The stories are all true!” a former staff member on the hit show told the New York Post of scathing reports circulating around the world’s richest comedian. “Is she always nice? No. It irritates me that people think she’s all sweetness and light and she gets away with it.”

Earlier this month, former security guard Tom Majercak called out the popular TV host for bad behaviour while he was serving as a bodyguard to DeGeneres, her mother, and her wife Portia de Rossi at the 2014 Academy Awards. “Ellen pretty much just gave me a side glance out of her eye and didn’t even say ‘Hello,’ or ‘Thank you for protecting my mother, my wife and me,’” he told Fox News. “It was very cold and it was very sly and it was actually kind of demeaning in the way that she treats people other than those who are in her circle.”
