I'd Rather Be An Actor Than A Nawab Any Day
STARDUST INDIA
|February 2018
It’s rare to encounter an intellectual personality who is charming with just the right amount of sense of humour. And ever since he rose to prominence with his noticeable performances in Dil Chahta Hain and Kal Ho Na Ho, he has been a nawab of millions of hearts and not just Pataudi. Lately he’s had quite a rollercoaster ride when it comes to the Box office more so as Rangoon and Chef though critically acclaimed didn’t do well. But looks like SAIF ALI KHAN in his easy going slick way plans to change the graph with Akshat Verma’s Kaalakaandi. Read on as Khushboo Tiwari converses with the Hum Tum actor about his acting, film choices, reviews and more…

Ever since the trailer of Kaalakaandi was out, comparisons have been made to Being Cyrus. But you say it’s really different. How do you see it?
I just think Kaalakaandi is an international, sensible, funny, engaging movie. It doesn’t fit the typical Bollywood potboiler. I think it’s a satisfying film. It has something for every one... and that sounds as if I am trying to sell it. (Smiles) At least for me, it’s definitely an entertaining movie. It is something that makes you laugh, and sometime, makes you cry a bit too. And it’s a film that comes out of a very relatable India. What I really like about Kaalakaandi is that it has got drama, l’il action and its quite a crazy movie. I am really happy that I did this film.
Well, the title is quite interesting too. Who came up with it?
Initially the title was Kaalagaandi and people said it probably means problem. So we did say, ‘You know that it doesn’t mean that at all. It means black bum’. (Laughs) So then we had to change and we came up with Kaalakaandi. Also, Akshat met someone who told him, ‘Sorry sir late ho gaya, aaj ek Kaalakaandi ho gaya’. Matlab gadbad ho gayi. So that’s how he came up with it.
So is the Jat from Pataudi coming out?
Yes, definitely, unless it’s the jh*nt from Pataudi. (Laughs) So just getting that right! Well, sorry for that. (Smirks)
Is all this craziness because of the movie?
No, actually it’s very normal. This is me in real life. Well, the Jat from UP came out in
