Aditya Roy Kapur: A Nonchalant Nonconformist

Even though the actor in question belongs to the mainstream set-up, he has not adhered to conventional diktats or predefined notions of the business, and is comfortably chartering his own path. For that matter he wasn't exposed to Hindi cinema in his formative years, he grew up watching Hollywood action capers. So he may not come across as the quintessential Bollywood Hero, make the most predictable choices, or play prototypical characters. However, Aditya Roy Kapur is setting in and blending well, and yet has managed to maintain his 'cool and different' image After a gruelling day, on Saturday night , the actor engages in a freewheeling chat.

Why did it take you so long to sign a film after Daawat-e-Ishq ?

It just happened that once Daawat-e-Ishq released, I had already signed Fitoor. The filming process got delayed by a couple of months and by that domino effect, everything goes forward. So things got a little delayed for whatever reasons. And it ended up being a longer gap than I thought it would be. Fitoor was slated to release a long time ago. But that’s life, and that’s how films go sometimes. You just have to accept it.

Personally, is it a conscious decision to sign few films and take it slow on the career front?

I never planned on doing one film at a time. It’s ideal if you do one film at a time, but you keep doing films. You can’t have too much of a gap between them, because then, everything goes for a toss. At this stage in my career, I won’t like to have such long gaps. Also, mainly because I am at my happiest when I am on set working, and acting every day, and playing a character. That’s when life takes care of itself, for me. Only for that reason, I’d like to do more films. So I could just be working more.

Otherwise, are you picky about your roles? What kinds of parts are you being offered?

It’s not like how it was earlier in the industry where you get typecast and get only one type of script. There are so many different kinds of films being made, dealing with so many different subjects. I’m getting offered different content, whether good or bad is another question. But it’s different. It’s not just one type of film. I’d love to do a comedy and an action film.
