8 DAYS: To prepare for your role as Assistant State’s Attorney Peter Stone, not only did you watch past Law & Order episodes, you also worked closely with the former state attorneys who served as the show’s technical advisors. Did they tell you what kind of legal drama clichés to avoid?
PHILIP WINCHESTER: They didn’t really pinpoint anything. Situations may arise where something may not work on a page but when we say it or act it out, it comes to life. But honestly, our writers are so good. [Showrunner and head writer] Michael Chernuchin has worked on Law & Order for 20 years, so he knows exactly what he’s doing because he used to be a lawyer. We have writers who were prosecutors, lawyers and defenders, so this isn’t people just taking a stab in the dark.
