Entrepreneurship Highs And Lows
The Franchising World|August 2018

Entrepreneurship is considered trendy – but is it really so is a question best answered by the one who dares to get into the shoes of an entrepreneur. The Startup Summit 2018, which was organised by Entrepreneur India on July 21-22 at Hotel Westin, Pune brought into focus the non-glamorous side of building the next big thing.

Entrepreneurship Highs And Lows

Innovation, team-building, brand-building, franchising as a business model and tricks of trade – all this and much more is what came under the scanner during the Startup Summit, and interestingly so, what came to the surface were loads of insights that would make for a self-help book in itself. Concisely so, however, here are the nuggets:

The Summit was inaugurated by Pune’s Mayor Mukta Shailesh Tilak along with Kiran Deshpande, Charter Member and Chapter President of TiE Pune and Co-Founder and President, Mojo Networks, followed by the traditional lighting of the lamp.

DEFINING INNOVATION

A few years ago most of the entrepreneurial projects were limited to Tier I and II cities. However, the startup scene in India today is constantly evolving with cities like Hubli, Vizag and many others participating in the ecosystem through incubation and acceleration programs. Ajay Hiraskar, Governing Council Member, the Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) and Founder and CEO, Success Alchemists, opined that people confuse themselves by mixing up the concepts of innovations and amazing ideas. “Both of these are totally different. Innovation encompasses various facets of a business, helping to create a differentiation so that it paves the path for success. Having said that, lack of innovation doesn’t lead to failure, lack of execution does,” he added.
