|

October 2016

Entrepreneurs in the textile industry are profoundly investing in the digital technology, which has proved to be the fastest growing method of textile printing domestically and globally. Initially, flatbed and rotary screen printing methods have controlled the textile printing market for a long time.

Textile Printing In Fabric Industry Going Digital

But digital textile printing has emerged, because of the recent developments, providing speed and stability to the technology and gradually overcoming the huddles. The days of the traditional textile printing methods are coming to an end as digitalized printing has taken over the industry. Commercialized in early 2000’s DTP has revolutionized the textile printing process in current time. It can be defined as any ink jet based design on fabrics with the help of digital based image. The technology has witnessed huge popularity amongst textile players across the world. Initially used for soft signage applications, advancement in Digital printing technology allowed its applications to diversify into textiles and clothing, home textiles and other applications such as tents, automotive textiles, etc.

As compared to traditional printing processes, DTP reduces ink/dye consumption by 2040%, water usage by 40-60% and energy consumption by 50%. Digital printers can be used for printing innovative and unique designs on saris, dress material, home furnishing fabrics and T-shirts. Major players in Inkjet printers are MS Italy, Stovek, Konika Minolta, Roland, Reggiani, Hewlett-Packard, Epson and many others

Indian Manmade Fibre (MMF) Industry In Jeopardy: Increased Imports And Esclated Cost Affects Industry

Working out tax rates for different goods and services was a huge challenge for India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council. Although the GST has taken under consideration a significant part of the industry - cotton and natural fibers, distortion has been introduced in the GST system, through the ‘inverted’ duty structure on man-made fibers. Man-made fiber and synthetic yarn attract an 18% GST rate as compared to 12% excise duty, while the fabric produced from these fibers is taxed at 5%. This creates a situation where the input is taxed at a much higher rate than the final product.
