Mohair price up 75% year-on-year

The 99% sales clearance achieved at the first winter season sale of mohair was a good indication of healthy demand for mohair. There were 88 723kg on offer.
This was according to the latest mohair market report by Mohair South Africa.
The report stated that the average market indicator closed on R404,5/kg, which was 8% more than the last sale of the summer season on 8 June.
The increase in price was attributed to stiff competition between buyers, as well as the weakening of the rand against major currencies.
Mohair certified under the Responsible Mohair Standard (RMS) had attracted the most interest from buyers.
