Veterans Stun At Feldtag

While we have covered the 25th Historischen Feldtag Nordhorn elsewhere in this issue and in the previous edition of Tractor & Machinery, in this section we look at the earlier veteran and vintage tractors that were at the show. As I have mentioned before, this was the largest tractor rally to take place in Europe this year.

Treckerclub Nordhorn e.V. is to be congratulated on not only staging this amazing event, but for restoring rare veterans, which would more than likely otherwise be sitting in a museum gathering dust.

An example of what the club can do was seen for the first time at the event in the shape of a Lanz Landbaumotor, with its 14-litre 80hp gas engine and rotavator on the back end. This incredible machine is owned by John Deere and was preserved by Lanz before WW2 and came with the purchase of the company in 1956. It was loaned by John Deere at Mannheim to the Treckerclub Nordhorn e.V., whose members unseized the engine and made a new fuel tank, amongst other things.

The massive rotavator on the back end worked very well indeed, even though the ground was slightly damp. This model was made from 1912-26 and was also supplied to the military as a gun tractor, but it was too expensive for the average German peasant farmer to buy.

The Landbaumotor was very impressive in the way it went about its work and attracted a crowd three deep in the working area when the sun came out for the afternoon on the Sunday of the show.
