Stealing the show, and a lot of hearts along the way, the Jeep Compass is doing a lot of things right

The Right Direction

Every once in a while, there comes a car that garners an incredible amount of attention without even trying to. It doesn't scream out with outrageous looks or sounds; there's an air of subtlety and class that simply surrounds it and consequently draws you in. I speak, of course, about the Jeep Compass. It took top honours at the Motoring World awards for the SUV of the Year, and with completely good reason.

If you came across a Jeep Compass on the road and you haven't already seen it before, I can assure you that curiosity will get the better of you. It's got decades of history that have flowed into its design effortlessly. Most of the time, looks are a subjective matter. Not here, no. Everybody seems to be attracted to it in some way or the other. There's a warm sort of aura about it that first makes you admire it, then invites you in. It carries with it the rugged, go-anywhere, do-anything reputation that Jeep is so famously known for. And it does not disappoint.

HISTORY CHANNEL

When I'm around old motorcycles, I often find myself wondering what it must've been like to be born in an earlier time. Wondering, mind you, not wishing. I wonder what it was like when mankind invented the motorcycle. I wouldn't want to get anywhere near the first motorcycle, the Daimler Reitwagen (the word means 'riding car', stupidly enough), made by German inventors Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach in 1885. To quote Melissa Holbrook Pierson, 'The first motorcycle looks like an instrument of torture.' And something that might cause an explosion uncomfortably close to one's nether regions. Right after it's shaken loose every healed bone in one's body.
