The MF Hanomag dozer ripping up the earth; the Hanomag company dates back to 1835, building steam engines from which it progressed to making many other types of machinery. Men At Work!

This year’s Welland Steam & Country Rally was spectacular with a fantastic collection of classic plant working over the three-day event. Among the machines seeing action was a Terex 82-30 bulldozer that belonged to Adrian Reed; this dozer featured in the very first issue of Classic Plant and Machinery and its 6-71N ‘Screaming Jimmy’ Detroit Diesel engine sounded superb, even if it was loud!

Many other classic dozers were in attendance, including Paul Badger’s Caterpillar D6, a 1941 Caterpillar D4, a Fowler Challenger 33 (one of two) an MF Hanomag D600C belonging to Keith Thomas and a Rolls Royce-powered International Harvester BTD-20 belonging to Dehane Rhodes: not a classic as such was a Komatsu D41P that also saw action at this event.

The show provided a vast array of other classic machines, from a steam shovel to a collection of classic JCBs, plus a collection of tracked loading shovels; the working field once again proved its popularity - evident by the large number of visitors viewing the machines in operation and those on static display.
