Successor to GH5 gets enhanced video capture and improved stabilisation
PANASONIC UNVEILS GH5 II, AND THE GH6 IS ON ITS WAY

Panasonic has announced the Lumix GH5 II, aimed at vloggers, content creators, and filmmakers. The new camera follows in the footsteps of the Lumix GH5, which has proved a huge hit with video shooters thanks to its blend of lightweight, portability, high-powered 4K capture, and great stabilisation, but which is now four years old – so what can its successor bring to the party? It should be noted that this new camera is not a substitute for the rumoured Lumix GH6, with Panasonic also officially announcing that the GH6 is in development, and will arrive by the end of this year.

Panasonic is aiming the GH5 II and the GH6 at two distinct types of videographers. The GH5 II, which uses the same sensor as its predecessor to offer 4K/60p video recording, is a more budget option for video creators, YouTubers, and live-streamers, whereas the Panasonic GH6 will be aimed more at amateur and professional filmmakers.

The big news on the GH6 front is that the camera will be using a new, high-speed sensor that’s capable of shooting 5.7K/60p video. It won’t have the 8K powers that some were hoping for, but that new sensor should ensure that it produces some lovely oversampled 4K video.
