Major Tom

My first pet was a cat named “Major Tom,” or “Tommy.” He was a domestic shorthair silver tabby and white. From what I was told, my parents purchased Tommy for $1.98 from the 5 & 10 cent-store in Trenton, NJ as a young kitten after they moved into their first place.

Without a doubt, Tommy was a bit standoffish and strictly my Mom’s cat. He really wanted nothing to do with me no matter how hard I tried to win him over. He spent most of his time sleeping with one eye open directly in the middle at the head of my parents’ bed, where he knew he was safe out of my reach.
