In this issue's special section on Safety we start with a story in our safety section we look at innovation in safety via a series of innovative new products introduced this year. We'll see how these offerings have the potential to increase voyager's well being while passage making. A second story looks at inflatable PFDs and the importance of maintenance to insure these flotation devices are reliable in an emergency. In our Power Voyaging column marine systems expert Steve D'Antonio examines the important of circuit overload protection. In the voyaging interview we talk to marine electronics installer Bill Bishop and ask him about what voyagers should know about current electronics and where the field is heading. In the Marine Technology Notes column we describe a possible upcoming modification to AIS. Future Class A AIS units could include real time weather data from ships.
