ELLE Decoration Middle East has always featured Beirut in its pages. Her houses with three arches, her palaces, her museums, her designers and her craftsmen have livened her up with their creative effervescence. Today they are wiped out, ravaged in a second by the terrible explosion that happened on August 4th, after years and years of struggling to rise from the ashes of the still-present past.
This issue is a tribute to Beirut testifying her wounds but also calling for mutual aid and solidarity. We need foresight and a global vision to restore demolished neighbourhoods. We need expertise in heritage conservation. We need immediate action to prevent winter from adding more ravage. We need financial help to be able to rebuild in the midst of this economic and financial crisis that is holding back Lebanon.
Beirut outraged, Beirut shattered, Beirut martyred but Beirut always resuscitate because we want it!
