Change in Strategy and Innovation Required to Alter Status of India’s Apparel Exports
The recently concluded Union Budget has allocated Rs 6,227 crore for the textile
ministry for the next fiscal, representing a 36% hike from the budgeted level of Rs
4,595 crore a year earlier. This comes in after the government stepped up focus on
labour-intensive sectors to create more jobs. After the Rs 6,000 crore package was
announced for the development of trade, the industry and Govt have been expecting
high returns in terms of business as well in creation of more jobs; results, however,
have not come up to expectation. The recent breaking news by the Govt for
industry is having the India International Garment Fair at Gandhinagar, rather
than in Delhi’s Pragati Maidan. The present members of the ministry are seeking
new ways to uplift our apparel and textile industry. Read More....
