What if I don't write about Tesla this month? Should I mention how the launch
event felt a bit haphazard, yet was, undoubtedly, a national event? Do I skip over
the endless chats and DMs pinging through the WhatsApp groups of motoring
journalists and influencers trying to figure out who got invites for the Tesla event? Or
bypass talk of the pricing strategy, and Y this Model? Should I stay clear of the duty
structure, the backstory of EV policy drafts, and the favourable provisions tempting
manufacturers to move production to India? Ignore the crowded list of electric cars
within the Model Y's price bracket and the debate over what it would mean for Tesla
to 'Indianise' its offerings. Actually, I can—for now. Not because I imagine the brand
will be a non-player in the Indian market, or that it won't be competitive, or that the
future of electric cars is doomed. I can avoid all these questions and discussions
because the initial wave seldom reveals the complete picture. This phase is all about
headlines screaming 'finally here,' the fanboys, and Mr Big Pockets. Right now, it's
hype, perception, sentiment, and the weight of anticipation
