It’s easy to presume that Sanjay Salil has taken some high risk decisions in his life – throwing away a great career to become a media consultant, despite having just one client in hand and none other in sight. But when you delve through his story in Digital Studio India’s August issue, you realise that he was well aware about the difference between taking appropriate and unsuitable risks in business. That explains how he grew MediaGuru to a global organization that has successfully accomplished over 50 projects across 16 countries in a decade. Salil continues to take chances because he wants MediaGuru to discover new competencies and markets. Three years ago, it began focusing on digitisation and media asset management (MAM) technologies, as he is convinced this calculated risk will put him ahead of his peers. While on MAM deployments, in this issue Digital Studio India explores how contemporary MAM systems are often limited in their ability to manage legacy content that existed before the system was commissioned. Industry experts share their insights about sensible business practices that can be assigned for a structured meta-data approach to manage content. This month also sees the release of director Ashutosh Gowariker’s magnum opus Mohenjo Daro, set in the backdrop of the Indus Valley civilization. It is fascinating how sound designers Parikshit Lalvani and Kunal Mehta reimagined sounds for this prehistoric era, especially when they no reference material to fall back on. And as Woody Allen’s Café Society is set to release globally, we have a tête-à-tête with Anthony Raffaele, Senior Colourist of Technicolor PostWorks NY, who recounts his experience of working with veteran cinematographer Vittorio Storaro for the movie and how the duo collaborated to wrap the entire cast in a honeyed light that was a throwback to the 30s era.
