Desh 2 August 2021 issue remembers Abanindranath Tagore on his 150th birth anniversary. One of the greatest icons of Indian modern art, Tagore ushered in a new national idiom by infusing a spirit of revivalism in his paintings. A modernist at heart who was guided more by sensibility than training, Tagore transformed post-Renaissance academic realism into something more responsive to imagination and subjectivity. He was also an accomplished writer, who told stories in an unassuming and picturesque style that has continued to charm generations. This issue comprises essays by Amitrasudan Bhattacharya, Prabhatkumar Das, Shubhabrata Bandyopadhyay, Manasij Majumdar and Sushobhan Adhikari. There is a travelogue penned by Chirasree Bandyopadhyay, recounting her visit to Switzerland. The issue carries other regular sections like the serialized nonfiction ‘Naxalbarinama’ by Ashim Chattopadhyay, the serialized novel ‘Lochandas Shabdakar’ by Bimal Lama, ‘Jiban Jerakam’ by Sumit Mitra, Mantabya, Granthalok, Shilpo Sanskriti, Galpo, Chithipatra, Seshkatha etc.
