All there for the having

This month’s issue is a satisfying round-up of projects from around the world, which prove that no one country dominates when it comes to creativity. It’s easy to snipe and complain, it’s simple to bemoan an apparent lack of originality — but far too often, not enough credit is given where it’s due.
Take Hong Kong, for example. Researchers appointed by the government recently announced 480 ‘items of intangible cultural heritage’ that the city is vowing to safeguard. And while the monumental West Kowloon Cultural District project trudges on with its grand plans for cultural preservation and artistic encouragement, the much smaller PMQ has already opened its doors and provided a haven for the territory’s creative sector (see our story on pages 76-83 in this issue).
More proof of Hong Kong’s burgeoning creative industry was also evidenced at our Design Night Out (see pages 100-101, and a photo gallery at www.perspectiveglobal.com), where seasoned design veterans rubbed shoulders with many of our young 40 Under 40 2014 laureates.
No, there is no lack of creativity or originality — and you don’t have to look hard to find it, either.
