Perhaps no one better defines the modern bassist than British-born Janek Gwizdala. With a plucking pedigree as a Berklee-trained, boundary-pushing soloist who has made his mark in the jazz and pop worlds, Gwizdala is also a bass hero for the social media age thanks to his popular website, blog, podcast, and upcoming app. We get the lowdown on how he manages his electric bass empire, and dig into his playing style and new album. We also recap a busy NAMM show that was brimming with bass gear and all-star performances. We catch up with Julie Slick of Adrian Belew’s power trio, British experimental force Bonobo (a.k.a.
