This month, it’s 4x4 magazine’s annual Land Rover special issue. As always, we’re ready to cover every marque under the sun (you’ll find stuff about pick-ups in this issue, as well as news of the new VW Touareg and products to suit all kinds of vehicles) but our features are focused on Solihull.

People often assume that modern Land Rovers are no use for expedition travel. The new Defender challenges that, but we’ve also got the concluding episode of a series we’ve been running, covering the tale of an expedition from London to Cape Town in an L322 Range Rover.

That’s a long way, but you know what they say about used cars that have been ‘round the world’? We’re featuring a Discovery this month whose owner told us it was on 684,000 miles - that’s round the world 27 times.
Still a daily driver, too – and a playday weapon to boot.

Another kind of long journey is the sort you get in the workshop when you undertake to build a hybrid. And there’s a 100” home-brew in this issue that’s a cautionary tale – and an inspirational one, too.

We’ve also got a quartet of superb Land Rovers from the leaf-sprung era, including a glorious never-restored Series I – and one of the most sensational Lightweights of all time. You don’t need to be into Land Rovers to appreciate what’s in this issue of 4x4 – but it definitely helps!
