When I started Nurture, my son was 5 months old. I was thrilled to share natural parenting information like babywearing, breastfeeding, co-sleeping, and baby-led weaning. But that was 5 years ago. William and I are now moving into a new phase: home education. When people ask William if he's in school, he confidently replies, “I'm home educated.” Most people respond positively, sometimes wishing it had been an option for their children.
Why did we choose home education? For us, it was an extension of our strong family connection. Spending 30 hours a week away from the family felt too much at this tender age. Additionally, children spend about 51 minutes learning in school each day. We can cover more in less time at home, leaving the rest for play. We value free thinking over conformity and want William to question everything. Schools don't always value every child's unique gifts, potentially leaving some feeling inadequate. As a former lawyer, I believe I can provide a better educational foundation than the current Australian system, which shows declining results.
What about socialisation? We have a vibrant social life. William doesn't spend 30 hours a week with other 5-year-olds, and that's intentional. At this age, children model others' behaviour, and I'd prefer he model a variety of behaviours rather than just those of his peers.
Some highlights in this edition of Nurture include 7 Reasons to Not Set Limits with Your Child, Toxic Chemicals in Your Home, Feeding Children Without Stress, 10 Tips to Teach Your Child to Read, and Breastfeeding & Weight Loss.

**Whilst the parenting articles in each issue, are timeless, the branding is not lol! We rebranded from issue 22, regardless, enjoy the gift of Nurture!

Nurture Parenting Magazine Description:
Nurture is Australia’s natural parenting magazine in print Nationally in Newsagents, or via subscription to your door!
Nurture is now also available worldwide via Print on Demand, and digitally in over 40k Newsstands Globally!
Founded in 2012, Nurture is published by parents for parents and is your destination for thought-provoking, evidence-based articles on the physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual elements of child-rearing from a natural parenting perspective.
Fundamentally, Nurture advocates the principles of Attachment Parenting, and the Attachment Theory – A Secure Base for Babies and Parents. Attachment is a deep and enduring emotional bond that connects one person to another across time and space (Ainsworth, 1973; Bowlby, 1969).
Our philosophy is to nourish the most important bonds, first with yourself, then with your family and close relationships, and are both WHO (World Health Organisation) and TGA (Therapeutic Goods Administration) compliant. We help parents seek out the practical tools and knowledge they need to feel empowered and supported as they child-rear. From pregnancy to the early learning years, we are there through it all!
Published bi-monthly and consciously printed, is it time for your ‘time-out?
