Infrastructure for charging stations expands in capital
Vietnam Investment Review
|June 29, 2026
From site surveys and technical standards to projects involving thousands of battery-swapping cabinets, Hanoi is laying the groundwork for the electrification of transport.
The Vietnamese capital is accelerating the development of charging and battery-swapping infrastructure for electric vehicles (EVs) and e-bikes, with a series of large-scale projects taking shape as the city prepares for greener mobility and the pilot implementation of low-emission zones from mid-2026.
In mid-June, V-Green and Hanoi Power Corporation, under Vietnam Electricity (EVN) Hanoi branch, signed a cooperation agreement to deploy up to 10,000 battery-swapping cabinets for electric motorcycles across the city.
Under the plan, V-Green will make use of around 16,000 existing power facilities to install between 7,000 and 10,000 battery-swapping stations covering all 126 communes and wards of the capital.
The two sides will pilot the installation of battery-swapping cabinets at suitable locations such as transformer stations, electrical cabinets and utility poles to improve accessibility for EVs.
EVN Hanoi will provide electricity supply, sign direct power purchase contracts and deliver technical services, while V-Green will invest in the equipment and ensure compliance with safety and fire prevention standards.
